Why? Why? Why?

Anyone who has ever been around a three-year-old will can attest to the fact that they love to use one word more than any other word. That word is "why".

They will question everything. It doesn't matter what it is. Here is a recent example:

"Why is Sammy a dog?"
"Because he is."
"Why?"
"Becuase"
"Why?"
"Because that's the way it is."

And it will contunue on and on.

But, if you want to have fun, turn it back on them. Start asking them an unending stream of whys. It is really fun to see what their reaction is. Here is the one we had today:

"Daddy, don't brush my hair."
"Why?"
"I don't want to."
"Why?"
"Because."
"Why?"
"Because!"
"Why?"
"Daddy... I said because!"

That last line he does this really cute thing where he points at me and gets this real serious look on his face.

It is really fun to turn the tables on him and see the exaspiration on his face that I know that I feel.

"The important thing is not to stop questioning." -Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)
