Its Over?

The lights are down.

The trees are disassembled.

The red and green swag has been packed away.

The toasts have been toasted.

The guests have departed.

And, to me, it feels so strange that it is done.

This year, we started our heavy duty Christmas shopping in October. Our dining room became the official present wrapping room and the Christmas trees started going up the day after Thanksgiving. We were done with our shopping around the first of December... Just in time to start cooking for all the parties and gatherings. Christmas came with its mad dash between family engagements; watching and waiting for the excited smiles as Noah and all of the nieces and nephews opened their presents.

Then came New Years Eve. We spent the week before planning and preparing. It is our big gathering for the year. We had more food and wine that we could ever finish, but everyone had a great time.

Now, everyone is gone and the decorations are put away. The trees and decorations, which took over a week to put up, took less than four hours to put away.

The whole thing just feels anticlimactic. We rush around for a couple of months getting things ready and over the course of a couple of hours spread out over a week or so, its all done.

Don't get me wrong, getting back to normal is great, it is just that normal doesn't feel normal right now.
